VG. I guess today’s show should have a name that honors our first female Secretaries of State: Albright, Hillary, and Condoleeza. Take your pick: “We came, we left, we lied.” Or, “it was worth it.” Or, “I just follow the orders.”
HOBBS: How about combining it all, and creating the Logo for the State Department: “We followed orders to lie, we failed, but it was worth it.” Nah, it wouldn’t work. Somebody would think it is the logo of some inveterate Stalinist or fascist.
ALICE: Hobbs said it. Nazis or Stalinists persist in their ways, while we’ve already repented. Now all the progressive press, from Maddow to NPR, are wringing their hands in the manner of Jimmy Swaggart, saying, “Oh, our Liberal and Progressive God of all good causes. Please forgive us: we’ve sinned. We won’t do it again. We’ll interview the culprits, who'll tell us the truth, and we’ll move forward.” That’s American way. Yes, we are all human, so we lie a few times, but when there are no lies left, we speak the truth.
VG: That’s what makes me suspicious too. Twenty years of lies requires at least forty years of repentance: repentance of politicians, and pundits, and military and everyone else who was involved. There also should be mechanisms established that would prevent the press from going to bed with generals (sometimes literary, as in the case of Petraeus) and then the same generals getting in charge of CIA, and feeding BS to their shooting buddies in the army, and their bed-buddies in the press, and their cocktail buddies in the party. So when that very Petraeus is explaining to us why we’ve failed and who is to blame and what’s to be done, I feel like holding to my wallet as hard as I can.
HOBBS: What Petraeus and other imbedded journalists are doing is called synergy. That’s how we succeed. Who needs this system of independent investigators, committees and so on. And who’ll be on these committees? Some nobodies, whom nobody heard before? No! We need a stellar person, like Robert Muller or Rachel Maddow, who can chat with their star friends, investigate, report, spin, investigate again, denounce, pontificate, and then end up blaming Russians and whitewashing Americans. There are plenty of lies about Serbia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Ukraine, Russia. Let Rachel Maddow investigate and conclude that it is all Russia’s fault. It is Russians who made us lie in the first place, because it was Cold War and we had to win it. It is Russians who made us lie after the Cold War, because we could not admit the truth that there was no longer danger since Russians have retreated and withdrawn. So we continued to lie about their threats in Europe, and Middle East, and Ukraine, and all over the world. And of course, when Russians are not there, maybe we can blame Taliban? I suspect that's one of the reasons for the current retreat: now we can blame them for anything.
ALICE: Well, every country worthy of its name needs an enemy. Do you think Russians don’t milk western hostility? Of course they do. They use it to squash dissent, to arrest and abuse their heroic Navalny, to get Belarus under their wing, to meddle all over the world and explain to their population that it is all NATO’s fault. No food on the table – NATO. No money for pensions – NATO. And isn’t Putin using the same system of putting in charge the people he trusts, that is his KGB buddies, who put in charge their own buddies, so it takes even more that twenty years for the truth to come out in Russia. State control is always worse that the corporation control. That’s we’ve study in school, didn’t we? Remember there was this petty mafia family that terrorized the small town in the South of Russia, raping, robbing, killing, silencing, while one of their leaders, was in the government, which enabled them to get away with murder and terror for years. How is this Tsapok gang different from our puppet government in Afghanistan?
VG: Good point, Alice, and for that I am letting you out of your temporary jail, which I used in order to transport you to the vet. You named it: the SOBs whom we put in charge of all those countries whom we invade and democratize, whatever comes first, these SOBs are not that different from Tsapok gang, and that’s why these regimes do not last. But there is one more thing that you failed to mention: this Tsapok gang was investigated, arrested, and jailed. Are we going to jail all these crooked leaders whom we’ve created and propped throughout the years? Do you think we are trying to fly all these lying and corrupt Afghanis who turned Afghanistan into a mafia state obedient to the United States, in order to investigate and jail them? Not really.
HOBBS: How many Ukrainian nazi collaborators whom we’ve harbored in Canada and US were ever jailed or investigated? In fact, their children are now sent back to Ukraine in order to turn the country into an obedient and collaborating Afghanistan. If you think that Afghanistan generated lies, wait another twenty years till Ukraine collapses.
ALICE: You can’t say that US turns everyone into a failure. Look at the post WWII situation: Germany, Japan and their success story. These are amazing countries, all thanks to our involvement. And they know it, and continue to support us through truth and lies. That’s what I call gratitude. Even nowadays, Poland is doing well, and so is Hungary and Czech republic. These countries are not mafia states.
VG: Well, I guess each case is different. We need to study individual circumstances that result in success or failure. And I imagine many scholars do. But whatever they find, remains hidden in some obscure books. What we get for public consumption, is mostly lies, damn lies and Rachel Maddow with her Liberal God of all good causes.
